A large ship has remained stuck in the Suez Canal since Tuesday sending the world economy into loses in terms of billions of dollars.

The canal is an important shipping trade route that connects Asia and Europe.

According to Lloyd’s List, a shipping journal with its headquarters in London, $9.7 billion worth of good pass through the canal every day.

Experts estimate that it may take several weeks for passage to be cleared as the vessel got stack diagnostically.

“We can’t exclude it might take weeks, depending on the situation,” Said Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis, a Dutch company also trying to free the vessel. Berdowski was speaking to a Dutch television.

The blockage is now forcing some ships to take costly, long and dangerous routes around Africa’s southern tip.

The vessel that stuck, called Ever Green, is said to be as large as the Empire State Building in Manhattan in New York City.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) which is doing all it can to remove the vessel amid the challenge of winds and dusty storm has since suspended all traffic

The 193km canal sees the passing of 30 percent of world daily shipping vessels and contribute to 12 percent of global trade of all goods.
